All Scrapped Out!

All Scrapped Out! is a demonstration of how to make a masterpiece out of your unruly collection of scraps without pre-cutting or pre-pressing your fabrics. There is no need for pre-cut sizes. Let Penni show you how to step away from the cutting table and ironing board and just begin sewing. There is no need to purchase special rulers… you will use YOUR rulers. There is no need to cut into your stash of yardage… you will use YOUR scraps and turn them into something spectacular. Using just a few rules of experience Penni will show you how to make “free” quilts with all those leftovers others throw away.

Information Overload (Navigating the endless tips, tricks, books, blogs, patterns and products of the quilting world)

You can’t strike up a conversation with a quilter, read an article or blog or attend a class without learning a new tip or trick to make your quilting life easy. You can’t pop into a quilt shop or attend a quilt show without seeing another product or demo that can “revolutionize” your quilting. If you’ve been quilting for some time you are probably tripping over books, patterns and templates that you hardly use and missing out on some of the the products that will make your life easier. If you are new to the quilting world what exactly do you really need to buy? Everyone is a designer, blogger and lecturer. How do I know who to listen to?

Over the years I’ve been teaching I have been asked my opinion on lots of sewing topics including the best tips for getting the job done, little tricks that make life easier and your quilts just a little bit better, the best books for beginners and beyond, blogs that are useful for design, tips and techniques, the best pattern designers and some of the best (and worst) of the products on the market.

I have made a living designing quilts and other projects around other quilters scraps, rulers, and products and have made a hobby out of learning from as many quilters and sources as I can. I would love to share some of my favorite do’s and don’ts from my quilting journey and don’t mind sharing some of my best mishaps either. Let me take you on a humorous journey navigating all the quilting world has to offer.

The Color Conundrum

Are you a little fearful of reaching outside of your comfort zone with color? Do you often wonder what’s missing in your top? Have you ever looked at another quilter’s work and thought, “I wish I could mix my colors like that.” What are they doing differently that you feel you haven’t grasped? How would you like to be more confident with color?

Through a colorful trunk show and a tried and true (secretly scientific method) I will demonstrate how to demystify the color picking process to make your quilts pop. Watch the fabric come to life before your very eyes. Whether you are purchasing fabrics for your next project or gathering your scraps for a free sew day, let me help you feel more confident with color and unleash your potential. Make your quilts pop and never run out of that special fabric again.

Fabric 411

Did you ever wonder about the fabrics we all love? How are they made? Where does the process begin? We all know our favorite fabrics are created from cotton but what exactly is the process from the factory to the shop? How does a company pick designs and how long does it take to get fabrics from design to print to market? What is the difference between a wet print process and a digital design? Is there really a difference in the base cotton? If you have ever wondered any of those things… take a journey with me to discover things you may not know about what goes on behind the scenes. As part of the corporate team with Michael Miller Fabrics, I have learned so much about the process and I would love to share some of this knowledge with you.
